Dog Days of Summer 2012 = Labor Month...

Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer and it brings all that “heat” we’ve been talking about to an end... but, not before delivering our last two litters of the year. When we say, “we only have a few litters a year”, it’s true. It just so happens that all five of them came back-to-back in August. What was “The Dog Days of Summer” literally became “Labor Month”.

How does this happen? Well, when you have several breeding females it seems like they all end up getting on the same heat cycle after a couple of years...kind of like women working together in the same office for a while. Ideally, we would not choose to have five litters this close together but there were some extenuating circumstances that guided our decisions. Furthermore, when it’s all said and done, it’s almost easier going through all the stages from breeding to homing the puppies at once.

So you’re probably asking yourself... “Self, what were those “extenuating circumstances” that led Dachshund Hall to have this many breedings back-to-back?” Glad you asked. Every breeding does not guarantee a litter of puppies and for some of these pairings it was their first breeding or attempted breeding. Sawyer, (our longhaired shaded cream male with Sniffntells lines) who sired two of these litters was an unproven stud...not anymore. Ellie, would not breed her first time, but this time she was ready to become a mama and she’s a good one. So, there were a couple of unknowns that could have potentially left us with just two litters instead of five. In the end, all breedings were successful and we have a host of happy, healthy, Dachshund Hall puppy love looking for wonderful new homes!

Congratulations to “Hall’s Don’t Touch My ‘Willy’” and “CLV ‘Image’of Talker” on their litter! They are the proud parents of four adorable longhaired miniature dachshund puppies. You can see Image’s litter in “Dachshund Hall - Litter #4”.
